Osteoarthritis

Most people will experience a form of osteoarthritis as they get older, however the severity can differ greatly from a little morning stiffness to severe limiting pain. Osteoarthritis is defined as the structural degeneration of joint cartilage which lines the inside of the bodies joints. In the foot alone there are 33 different joints, all of which can be prone to osteoarthritic changes.

What is Osteoathritis?

Osteoarthritis is defined as the structural degeneration of joint cartilage which lines the inside of the bodies joints. In the foot alone there are 33 different joints, all of which can be prone to osteoarthritic changes.

Current research would suggest the pain you experience from osteoarthritis mainly comes from the soft tissue (muscle, ligaments and tendons) which surround the arthritic joint.

Although we are unable to change the bone structure through non-surgical interventions, we can definitely help ease the inflammation of the surrounding soft tissue allowing you to get back into your normal day to day activities!

Senior Podiatrist Jarrod Discusses Osteoarthritis

How do we prevent Osteoarthritis?

Movement is key! Research has indicated that keeping fit an active can have a great impact in preventing the painful effects of osteoarthritis. 30 minutes of movement-based activity has shown incredible results in preventing the need for surgical interventions (e.g. knee replacements).

How can I be fit and active when I am in pain?

Our Podiatrists hear this question very frequently! Podiatrists play an important role of helping ease your pain and allowing you to get back on your feet one step at a time. By utilising our vast range of treatments, we strive to achieve the results, and have you reaching your goals sooner rather than later.
