Diabetic Foot Assessment

Diabetic Foot Screening

People with Diabetes require regular screening to prevent lower limb complications including skin degeneration, prevention of infections and ulceration.

What a Diabetes Assessment Involves?

A Diabetes Assessment will include a dermatological screening of your nails and skin. This includes looking at any cracks or callouses that may need attention and checking any dry skin that may be subject to breaking down and becoming damaged.

Vascular Screening

A vascular screening will be undertaken using a Doppler ultrasound to test the blood flow to your legs and feet. With this information we are able to identify if treatment is needed to improve blood flow to the lower limbs and if any damage will heal on the legs and feet. We can use this information along with your GP to help prevent infections that can lead to amputation and ulceration.

Neurological Assessment

A Neurological Assessment of your nerves will be completed on the bottom of your feet to identify any numbness that may result in injury. If your diabetes is not well controlled, nerve endings in the feet can become damaged resulting in numbness.

Biomechanical Check

Biomechanical check of your foot posture will be undertaken to assess if any high-pressure areas need off loading, further preventing diabetes complications. An assessment of your current footwear will also be completed.

Regular Podiatric screening is important for patients with Diabetes as it prevents issues that may arise which can lead to debilitating problems. We work alongside your GP to give you the care you need!
