Support at Home Funded Podiatry Services

From 1 November 2025, Australia’s new Support at Home program replaced the Home Care Packages (HCP) and Short-Term Restorative Care (STRC) programs. It’s designed to help older people stay independent at home with government funded services — including podiatry.

What Support at Home Covers for Podiatry

Podiatry is included under allied health & therapy services within Support at Home. Care can include routine foot care (e.g., nails, corns, callus), diabetic foot assessments, falls-risk prevention, wound care liaison, pressure/offloading solutions, exercise plans, and custom orthotics when clinically appropriate. The aim is to keep the elderly healthier, more mobile and thriving for longer within their own homes.

Importance of Podiatry in Home Care

Foot health is crucial for maintaining mobility and independence. Regular podiatry care helps manage conditions like diabetes-related foot issues, toenail problems, and symptoms of arthritis. Such care is essential for preventing complications and maintaining a high quality of life for elderly individuals.

Who is eligible?

Eligibility is determined through the national Single Assessment System (this replaced ACAT/RAS in Dec 2024). An assessor completes one streamlined assessment and issues an approval and support plan that can include allied health like podiatry.

Already on a Home Care Package?

Your services continue under the new system — the government has set out a transition to Support at Home for existing clients and providers to ensure continuity of care.

Benefits of Home Care Podiatry Funding

  • Personalised Care: Tailor your podiatry services to your specific needs and preferences.
  • Enhanced Mobility: Regular podiatry services help maintain your ability to move comfortably and safely.
  • Preventive Health: Early intervention and management of foot health issues to prevent complications.
  • Peace of Mind: Assurance that foot and leg health needs are consistently managed, reducing concerns about mobility and safety.
