Onyx Nail Brace Frequently Asked Questions

How long doesOnyfix take to apply?

Onyfix can usually be applied during your allotted appointment time as it only takes about 10 minutes to apply, but your practitioner will guide you through each step.

How long does the Onyx band last for on the nails?

Onyfix bands will usually last at least 3 months or longer. In the majority of cases it stays in place until it grows right out with the nail. You may have to have more than one band applied as your nail is corrected over time, depending on the severity of the deformity.

Can I wear nail polish over the top of an Onyx strip?

Yes, provided that they are using a nail polish that can be removed with acetone or liquid nail polish remover.

A gel or shellac polish that requires mechanical debridement or filing to be removed should not be used as the Onyfix strip may come off during mechanical debridement.

How do I look after the Onyfix strip after the appointment?

For optimal results it’s important to follow the following instructions:

  • Avoid swimming or bath tubs for 24hours
  • Avoid wearing tight fitting or narrow shoes
  • Nail polish can still be applied however patients cannot use shellac or other acrylic toenails.

How do I know if I would be a suitable candidate for an Onyfix treatment?

Please consult with your foot healthcare professional to assess your suitability for an Onyfix treatment. They will advise you. Generally speaking Onyfix is ideal for ingrown nails and pincer nails including children’s nails.
