Prolotherapy Injections

Prolotherapy, also known as proliferative therapy or regenerative injection therapy, involves injecting a solution into weak or damaged tissues to stimulate natural healing processes. This treatment aims to strengthen and repair tissues, thereby reducing pain and improving functionality.

What is Prolotherapy?

Prolotherapy is a non-surgical treatment method that involves injecting an irritant solution, often a dextrose solution, into injured or weak areas of the body. The injections trigger the body’s natural healing response, leading to the repair and strengthening of tissues such as ligaments, tendons, and joints.

Benefits of Prolotherapy

  • Pain Relief: Provides significant and lasting relief from chronic pain by promoting tissue healing.
  • Tissue Repair: Stimulates the growth of new, healthy tissue in areas of damage or weakness.
  • Non-Surgical: Offers a non-invasive alternative to surgery for treating various musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Improved Functionality: Enhances joint stability and movement, leading to better overall function.
  • Holistic Healing: Encourages the body’s natural healing mechanisms without relying on medications or surgical interventions.

Conditions Treated with Prolotherapy

Prolotherapy is effective for a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, including:

  • Arthritis: Alleviates pain and improves joint function in arthritis-affected areas.
  • Tendonitis: Reduces inflammation and promotes healing in tendon injuries.
  • Ligament Injuries: Strengthens weakened or damaged ligaments for better joint stability.
  • Sprains and Strains: Accelerates recovery from acute and chronic sprains and strains.
  • Plantar Fasciitis: Helps in reducing chronic heel pain by promoting tissue regeneration.
  • Morton’s Neuroma
  • Neuropathic Pain
  • Sinus Tarsi Syndrome

The Prolotherapy Procedure

  • Session Duration: Each prolotherapy session typically lasts between 30 to 60 minutes. Multiple sessions may be required for optimal results.
  • Number of Treatments: The number of treatments varies based on the severity of the condition and the individual’s response to therapy. Generally, 3 to 6 sessions are needed, spaced several weeks apart.
  • Post-Treatment Care: After the injection, mild soreness or swelling may occur for a few days. Patients are advised to avoid strenuous activities and follow the post-treatment guidelines provided by their podiatrist.
