Running and Sports Injuries

Elite Foot Care take pride in offering a comprehensive podiatry service across a vast range of sporting injuries. Leading the way in musculoskeletal sports technology, Elite Foot Care provides Athletes access to high performance rehabilitation in a local and convenient location on the Sunshine Coast.

From Football, Cricket, through to Artistic Skating, our Podiatrists have the clinical knowledge to provide a fully individualised rehabilitation program tailored to the demands of our Athletes.

What is the benefit of seeing a Podiatrist for my sports injury?

Our Podiatrists comprehensively assess all elements of an injury. Some health professionals may just provide you with exercises; however, a Podiatrist can determine whether there may be a biomechanical element to your injury which may increase the likelihood of recurrence.

Too many times we have Athletes present with the tale of their chronic injury and health professionals have provided the same standard rehabilitation program. While, upon assessment we have identified a structural element within the lower limb, and after individualised rehab, the athlete has successfully returned to sport.

We all appreciate that a sports related injury needs a thorough rehabilitation (strengthening) to reduce the likelihood of long-term issues. Seeing Elite Foot Care for your lower limb injury will offer greater value towards your rehabilitation, having peace of mind that all biomechanical and strength-related factors are being addressed.

What is involved in an initial sports consultation?

The presenting injury/symptom will be assessed upon relevant medical history, conditions, occupational hazards and physical activities. Once a thorough medical screening has been conducted, the particular condition will be assessed and diagnosed.

Utilising leading sports assessment technology, our Podiatrists will look to identify any underlying muscle weaknesses by specifically assessing each significant muscle. The data will then help guide our rehabilitation and allow you as the patient to understand the problem and work towards the solution.

Further assessment will surround the functional demands of the patient’s sport. We will look to assess jumping, squatting and other movements to determine whether there is an asymmetry in loading and strength patterns.

Walking and running will be assessed with video analysis giving us the most accurate information to evaluate the patients’ upper body functions through to their lower limbs.

Conservative treatment for acute injuries will begin immediately. If further investigation is warranted, the patient will be referred for an X-ray, Ultrasound, MRI etc.

If a chronic condition or injury is present that relates to the patient’s biomechanical function, the patient will be advised to return for a biomechanical examination and gait analysis.

Injury Treatments

Utilising the findings of our clinical examination, our Podiatrists will tailor an personalised treatment program to have you back on the field or court in a time efficient manner.

We pride ourselves on being comprehensive, and as such will look to provide a vast range of treatment options. Patients are guided through their rehabilitation program step by step and reviewed periodically to enable best outcomes and maintain results.
